Sustainability in practice
The Falmouth Clinic outreach mission began in 1990 when Dr. Carpenter, the first U.S. physician volunteer, traveled with a church group to Falmouth, Jamaica, and was moved by the overwhelming medical need.
From humble beginnings in a makeshift room, the clinic grew through his dedication and the support of volunteers, churches, and medical schools across the U.S. A permanent clinic was built in 1992.
The Clinic is staffed by volunteers intermittently, but throughout the year. Currently teams travel to Falmouth about every 3-4 weeks. Patients have continuity of care and ongoing care.
Currently Groups from Missouri, California, Florida, Nebraska and Ohio support year round medical care.
Despite challenges like hurricanes and the COVID-19 pandemic, the Central Ohio Jamaica Medical Outreach remains committed to providing sustainable, compassionate care to the Falmouth community.
